Books by Lewis Barrett Lehrman

Shown here are the six books I have written since taking up pen (or, more accurately, word processor) in 1990. At this writing, all but the Goerschner book are out of print. and some have become very difficult to find. Listed with each title are copies I have in my personal library. While stocks last, I will accept orders at the prices shown, plus $5.00 each for shipping and handling.  All books are in mint condition. Most have never been opened. Your copy will be personally signed, to you, by me (though not by my co-authors, if any).

BEING AN ARTIST
Reprinted in paperbound as BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL ARTIST 144 pages
North Light Books, Cincinnati, OH, 1992

This was my very first book, and I have always marveled at how many lives it seems to have affected. I've received many letters and comments from aspiring artists for whom this book represented their first contact with artists who have succeeded, and who share in full, realistic detail their failures, their trials and their successes. Neither encouraging nor discouraging, Being An Artist brings rare insiders' perspectives to making a career in this exceedingly competitive environment.

BEING AN ARTIST -- Hard cover, 1 copy  $49.00

BECOMING A SUCCESSFUL ARTIST -- Paperbound, 2 copies  $39.00 each

ENERGIZE YOUR PAINTINGS WITH COLOR
Hardcover, reprinted in paperbound, 144 pages
North Light Books, Cincinnati, OH, 1993

Beginning with a chapter on the basics of color, I, (and eleven other artists, many of whose stories appeared in Being An Artist,) illustrate varied principles and methods of conceptualizing and applying color, each in commented step-by-step demonstrations. A popular title, it was also published in England, and in a Chinese translation.

Hard cover, 1 copy -- $39.00

Paperbound (Chinese translation), 3 copies -- $29.00 each

FRESHEN YOUR PAINTINGS WITH NEW IDEAS
Hardcover, 144 pages
North Light Books, Cincinnati, OH, 1994

In many ways my favorite book, owing the fun I had putting it together, and because I got to include so much of my own work in it. I had a grand time learning from twenty-two other artists, who contributed their creativity, their methods, and their art, for a book that's chock-a-block with idea starters for every artist.

Hard Cover, 2 copies -- $49.00 each

OIL PAINTING, THE WORKSHOP EXPERIENCE
Written jointly with Ted Goerschner
Hardcover, reprinted in paperbound, 144 pages
North Light Books, Cincinnati, OH, 1996

A "fly on the wall" at painting workshops at Scottsdale, Arizona and Cambria, California, I questioned, videotaped and photographed Ted as he conducted his popular oil painting workshops. Then I combined photos and text to re-create the workshop experience itself, complete with problems solved, failures dealt with, capturing the excitement of an intensive week for the reader. My second-best-selling book, it has remained in print for over 8 years, and going strong!

This book is still in print after 11 + years, and in the process has become my best selling book.

Hard Cover, 2 copies -- $49.00 each

Paperbound, 8 copies -- $29.00 each

CAPTURING LIGHT IN WATERCOLOR
Written jointly with Marilyn Simandle
Hardcover, reprinted in paperbound, 144 pages
North Light Books, Cincinnati, OH, 1997

I sat at Marilyn's shoulder with video and still cameras to capture as clearly as possible her inimitable watercolor technique in a series of stunning demonstration paintings. This has been a very popular title, and has been reprinted in a Japanese edition.

Hard cover, Japanese language only -- $49.00

HARLEY BROWN'S ETERNAL TRUTHS FOR EVERY ARTIST
Written jointly with Harley Brown
Hardcover, reprinted in paperbound, 144 pages
International Artist Books, Sydney, Australia, 2001
Distributed in the US by North Light Books, Cincinnati, OH

This book is crammed with Harley's insightful, witty, often outrageous way of presenting the basics of making art that many of us believed had been lost during the non-objective art revolution. Loaded with demonstrations, checklists, pointers and commentary on every phase of art, this book (as Harley puts it) is meant to be found paint-spattered and dog-eared beside your easel.

Recently out of print, and very hard to find. I regret that I have no extra copies.
